Catasros Rookery

A made for use with Shadowdark level 3 mini-adventure set in the region of Catastros.  

A pregnant wyvern flew near that great work of the last age, the Kath-Interum, and mistook a freed magical power source as food. Taking the strange vial of purplish-blue glowing liquid in tow, the winged matron took over an abandoned church at the top of a hill in the wilderness countryside between the sovereign nations of SilDimas and Kaxos. The power source is cracked and damaged. The aether-infused liquid inside has taken hold and warped her mind, interrupting her nesting behaviors. After some time, her body began producing a strange black substance that hardened into a shell upon exposure to the air. She used the black ichor to build out her nest upon the bell tower of the abanonded church. Once the nest was completed, her wyvern eggs hatched and she flew back and forth bringing them food. Quickly though, the powersource consumed her thoughts, and the wyvern mother lost the will to do anything but lay with the precious power source and let the mucus slowly encase her body. The elements around the church have begun to hold a magical charge. Black tendrils made of the same substance crawl across the ground and reach for anything it can consume. The infusion effects all things it touches and some of the long dead resting below the church have begun to stir… The winged matron’s hatchlings adapted and started hunting for themselves. They can be seen bringing back food for or even shiny treasures in hopes of rousing their mother from her dream-like slumber. Dormant, but alive, she remains entranced by the aetherous powersource.
